‘Morga’ in Concert @ Oriel Centre

Morga is based around the well-known tradition of fiddle and accordion duet, with backing provided by the bodhran and Greek bouzouki. Add the banjo to this mix and you have a fearsome cocktail! Mórga are a four-piece playing high-energy, souped up Irish traditional music, inspired by the great bands of the 1970s.The band formed in 2008 and released their debut CD the following year to widespread acclaim. After a couple years of playing around Europe they took a break to recover in 2011. Now they’re back with the addition of the legendary David Munnelly (who hails from Belmullet)on accordion in place of founder-member Barry Brady David Munnelly (Accordion) hails from Belmullet in Co. Mayo. David’s unique style brought him into the world of professional musicianship,he became a full-time member of Niamh Parsons’ band the Loose Connections. As Davids reputation grew in irish trad circles, David found himself recording and touring with some of the greatest irish bands and musicians of the last century including The Chieftains, De Danann, Gerry O’Connor, Athy McGlynn and Sharon Shannon.David formed the David Munnelly Band in 1999 and began a thirteen year journey with his own band touring Europe, America and Japan and recording four acclaimed CDs. Jonas Fromseier (Banjo/Bouzouki) Jonas originally from Denmark took up the banjo in his teens. After moving away from the island at nineteen he was asked to join the danish-irish group Trad-Lads he recorded his first  CD that year with this group and toured Scandinavia and Northern Europe. At twenty-one Jonas moved to Ireland and lived in Galway where he quickly blended into the local music scene and was soon playing professionally. After playing acoustic sessions for some years Jonas was asked to join the Irish group Arcady and gigged in Denmark and Ireland. In 2008 he recorded his second album with fellow Dane accordion player Anders Trabjerg specialising in one of his passions, Irish-American traditional music from the twenties and thirties. In 2008 he became a cofounder of Mórga seeking to recreate the sounds of the folk revival of the seventies the resulting CD received great reviews. In recent years Jonas has also performed with Irish music and dance show Celtic Crossroads, touring extensively in the US and playing hundreds of gigs for massive crowds. Dominic Keogh (Bodhrán) Dominic is from Kilmovee in county Mayo. It was through the local session scene that Dominic first became captivated by traditional music in particular the Bass beat of the Bodhrán, Dominic played for many years around the local areas with the legendary Peter Horan and other local greats. After Dominic moved to Galway in his early 20’s he came in contactand was hugely influenced by fantastic Bodhrán players such as the great Johnny ”Ringo” McDonagh and Paddy Kerr. It was here that Dominics Bodhrán style developed and matured. It was through the the Galway session scene that the idea for a band was developed and in 2008 Dominic became a founding member of Mórga and subsequently released their critically acclaimed self titled album which resulted in many tours throughout Europe. In 2010 Dominic joined the Niamh ni Charra Band, and has toured extensively with them throughout Europe.  Danny Diamond (Fiddle) Danny is a fiddler from Dublin. Danny comes from a musical background, parents Dermot and Tara are well-known for their music. In addition to his work with Mórgain Summer 2012 Danny released - Danny & Aki- Music from the Irish, Nordic and American traditions’ . This collaboration with Finnish multi-instrumentalist Aki has been critically acclaimed and a follow-up album is in production..
